PSMO-08 - Addressing antimicrobial stewardship with the 2030 goals and real-world strategies

Great Hall 3-4
Organised by FIPs' Community Pharmacy Section and FIPs' Hospital Pharmacy Section

Chair(s)

Mrs Manjiri Sandeep Gharat, Vice President FIP, India

Introduction

The session will first connect FIP Development Goals and Basel Statements with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the FIP Global Roadmap 2030 “Sustainable advancement for pharmacy worldwide”. This introduction will focus on how these frameworks support antimicrobial stewardship. The first presentation will also report new knowledge with results from our upcoming FIP BPP supported global survey on what antimicrobial stewardship activities and resources are available in different contexts, by hospital and community settings, health system type (e.g. public vs. private, high- vs. low-resource), and region of the world.

Next, two practical real-world examples of pharmacy-led interventions will be presented. Examples will include representation from Africa (South Africa) and South America (Uruguay). The session will close with a panel for questions with leaders from community pharmacy, hospital pharmacy, and the FIP AMR Commission. The session will generate enthusiasm for pharmacy led stewardship interventions and next steps for addressing stewardship needs across settings.
