PSMO-05 - Precision medicine: Optimising cancer therapeutics

M4
Organised by The Australasian Pharmaceutical Science Association

Chair(s)

Prof. Ross McKinnon, Flinders University, Australia

Introduction

Improving outcomes for patients with multiple cancer types can be accelerated with a variety of sophisticated data science methods, big data spanning multiple modalities (clinical, pathological, radiological, tumour or circulating biomarkers) and leveraging established collaborations with industry and clinical stakeholders. This symposium will provide insights into the use of data-based approaches to optimise the choice of therapeutic strategies and to achieve optimised dosing in various clinical scenarios.

Programme

11:00 – 11:05 Session introduction by the chair
11:05 – 11:45 Customising cancer care: Data-driven intelligence and empowered patients
Dr Ashley Hopkins, Flinders University, Australia
11:45 – 12:25 Computer-based modelling methods to identify dose individualisation strategies for best practice cancer treatment
Prof. Don Mager, University of Buffalo, United States
12:25 – 12:30 Closing and summary

Learning objectives

  • To identify different epidemiological approaches that utilise patient-provided data to inform dosage regimen design in cancer
  • To appreciate barriers associated with patient donation of experiences and data to assist in optimising pharmacotherapy
  • To describe various modelling procedures that can be employed for dose individualisation and optimising pharmacotherapy in cancer
