Humanitarians are working in some of the most challenging sectors, with high risk, low security, challenged rule of law, unstable conditions, and difficult accessibility. Yet the involvement of women within the humanitarian sector is essential to ensure equity, access to female professionals by patients, and allow for a non-male oriented discussion on intervention design. In this session we will present the following topics:
- Humanitarian & Refugee: Working as a humanitarian while being part of the affected population is commonplace in the humanitarian sector, and can empower people to support themselves. We will present the case of a humanitarian who became a refugee and remained on her mission.
- From pharmacist to Head of Mission: Advancing a career, from entry level to the highest position on the field. We will discuss the constraints and ways in which you can develop yourself to the highest standards of humanitarianism

Take home messages
Female involvement in the humanitarian sector is essential for ensuring equity and a diverse view, while also allowing women to access female health professionals who can also care for men and children, leading to care for all genders. For the professional, the career path and growth is possible for all genders, and women are leading at all levels, from the bottom to the top.
